Sat, Sun On 10th and 11th of October, at St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa, village of Ravno pole, near Sofia, was held for fifth time, the first and biggest golf tournament for amateurs in Bulgaria – Volvo Masters Amateur. 70 from the best Bulgarian and foreign golfers took part in the Stableford competition during the sunny weekend. After a challenging competition the winner became Svetoslav Stanislavov with 77 points. He will have the opportunity to represent Bulgaria in the international golf tournament, to be held in Spain and organized by Volvo Cars. Second, also with 77 points finished the young Ivan Golomeev, who is going to spend a weekend for two in Belvedere Holiday Club, Bansko, test-driving the new Volvo XC60. Third place was for Philip Welsh with 76 points and he received a unique winter jacket Volvo. During the first tournament day a leader in the competition was Philip Welsh with 43 points, followed by Ivan Golomeev with 41 points, and David Hampson made a “hole in one”. The best lady on Saturday was Albena Serafimova and on Sunday - Bojana Dimitrova. During the competition, admirers of the distinguished sport and guests of the sponsor enjoyed not only the sunny weather and the magnificent St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa atmosphere, but also the stunning Volvo cars, among which the winner in category 4x4 for 2009 in Bulgaria – Volvo XC60, the first car in the world that automatically stops when meeting immovable obstacle, Volvo XC90, Volvo S60 and the most ecological cars in the premium segment, which are part of the eco series DRIVe. Three of the cars were placed at the perfectly maintained course of St. Sofia Golf Club & Spa and the others were available for all Volvo lovers for test-driving. The sponsor and the host didn’t forget to entertain the corporative guests, specially invited for the event, by organizing an open golf lesson and many surprises. The Volvo Masters Tournament has being held in Bulgaria since 2004. The tournament is part of the international event Volvo Masters Amateur. Every year over 80 thousand golfers from 22 countries compete for taking part in it but only 72 players have this opportunity. The first winner of the Volvo Masters Amateur trophy in Bulgaria was Ivan Trassiev, for 2005 - the basketball legend Atanas Golomeev. During the last two years best amateur of Volvo Masters was Todor Krastev. The guy from Varna represented our country with dignity at the international competition, as we all hope this will happen again in this year’s edition. |
