On Saturday 1st of November 2008, Rotary Sofia International held its first ever golf day in Bulgaria at St.Sofia Golf Club & Spa.

The format for the day was a Texas Scramble, a fun event that usually makes for low scores. Saturday morning the weather was absolutely perfect for this time of year. The course was also in perfect condition. A field of 53 players took part in the event, the proceeds of which went to a worthy charitable cause.

Two teams performed exceptionally well – the team of Alexander Evtimov, Ivan Trassiev, Emil Markov and Thomas Coreno returned a 59 nett; the team of Dimitar Radev, Philip Clayton, Thomas Nelson and Ron Finlay also on 59 won the tournament on a count out.

Nearest the pin was won by Stefan Ebner on hole 15.

Prizegiving was a festive affair with food and drink sponsored by several companies, and an auction held for posters which raised more money for charity. Golfers and invited guests all agreed that the day was a great success; President of Rotary Sofia International, Liain Greive presented the prizes and was extremely happy with their first golf day held in Bulgaria.
