Tournaments

As a real lover of good whisky, and a confirmed Chivas Regal drinker, I was delighted to welcome Elena Illieva, Marketing Manager of Chivas Regal and her team to St.Sofia Golf Club & Spa on the 14th and 15th of June 2008 as sponsors of  the Chivas Regal Life Series Golf Tournament.

Thunderstorms were predicted for the weekend, but the weather gods were certainly smiling on the golf course, as the storms held off for both days. The excellent condition of the golf course was evident as the scores returned showed. The format for the first round was 36 holes singles stableford. The players with the highest of tally of points would win the prizes in the two divisions based on handicap.The Chivas Regal Life Series is renowned for offering dramatically different prizes, and this year is no exception. The winners of the both rounds of the Chivas Regal Life Series (second round to be held on 29th June 2008) will win a trip to Chile to play in a snow golf tournament in early September.

In the A division Iliana Dimitrova showed an excellent return to form with a total of 73 points and took third place. The first place was contested by two players Stefan Kralchev and Petar Kaloyanov, who tied with 74 points each. A count back was necessary and ultimately the winner was Kaloyanov who had recorded a terrific gross round of 72 on the second day. Kralchev, of course took second place. In the B division, regular tournament player Georgi Golomeev was third with 73 points. In second place was Yuh Hyung Koo with 74, and winning the B division on 75 points, a man who is fast improving with every tournament, Grisha Tchernev. Nearest the pins were won by Zhivko Tenev on Saturday and by Seth Underwood on Sunday.  

Chivas hospitality was soon flowing as was the Chivas Regal whisky with a lively cocktail party after the prizegiving. Round two of the Chivas Regal Life Series is eagerly anticipated!
